About Kelly
My name is Kelly, and I’m the morning show host for the Call FM radio network in Southeast and Southwest Florida. I never used to consider myself a “morning person,” but when I flip on the mic at 6 AM every weekday morning, I mysteriously transform into one for three hours. (It might have something to do with the excessive caffeination.) I love my job! There is nothing I’d rather do than hang out with you every morning over coffee, great music and bizarre holidays.
As a kid I used to entertain myself by recording fake radio shows on cassette tapes and filming news broadcasts on my grandparent’s clunky VHS camcorder. I should have known right then that radio is where the path would lead me. (Thankfully the path also led me out of the “big” hair era.)
It made sense that I would end up in the communication field, but I had a small hurdle to overcome first. I went to Southeastern University in Lakeland Florida, and on the first day of my communication orientation I decided to drop the major. I broke out in a sweat and felt like vomiting at the thought of speaking out loud in front of people. Despite my love of chatter, I was very shy, and knew I would never get through a radio or TV class alive. After a semester of trying to get interested in something else, I realized that everything I really wanted to do in life was in the area of communication. I decided to suck it up and get over my fear, and three years later I graduated with a BS in Communication, and a nifty Southeastern U Radio Producer of the Year Plaque.
I was born in the great state of Ohio (go Buckeyes!), but have moved all over the place since then. A good chunk of my childhood was spent in Indonesia where my parents served as missionaries, and there is a very soft place in my heart for Southeast Asia as a result. After a brief stint in Mexico, where I met my beloved boyfriend-of-five-minutes, Pepe, my family moved to South Florida in 1995 and I’ve been here ever since. I did eventually get over Pepe. Especially since I never understood a single thing he said to me…
If you’re ever looking for a way to engage me in a conversation, the best way to do it is to mention anything about the Florida Marlins. I love baseball, and especially the Fish, and you will have my undivided attention immediately.
Even more than baseball, I love Jesus! I asked Him to save me when I was just 4 years old, and He’s been my best friend ever since.
Along with my love of Jesus and baseball, I love my 9.5 nieces and nephews, music, talking, blogging, watching movies, reading, hanging out with friends and family, and Mexican food.
